What should you pay attention to when buying an air conditioner?

Cooling capacity

The cooling capacity is described in kW or BTU and indicates how effectively the air conditioner can cool the space. The higher the BTU, the larger the space can be cooled.

Room

In which room or for what purpose will you use the air conditioner? Based on the size of your room, you can make a choice.

Energy consumption

Air conditioners consume a lot of energy. Much more energy than a fan, for example. Therefore, choose an air conditioner with an energy label of at least A+.

How do you calculate cooling capacity and BTU?

The cooling capacity of an air conditioner is expressed in kW or BTU (British Thermal Unit). To find out how many BTU you need, take the following steps:
Step 1:  Calculate the volume of the room: Length x Height x Width is cubic meters (m3).
Step 2:  Determine the multiplication factor of 30, 40 or 50. In other words: the heat factor. 30 stands for well-insulated spaces with few windows. 40 stands for a less well-insulated space with many windows. The highest factor 50 is used for the attic, spaces with a flat or sloping roof, poor insulation, many windows and a lot of equipment.
Step 3:  Calculate the cooling capacity by multiplying the volume of the room (m3) by the factor (30, 40 or 50). Suppose your room is 100 m3 x factor 40 = 4000 Watt. To cool your room as well as possible, you need an air conditioner of at least 4000 Watt or 4 kW (4000/1000).
Step 4: The capacity of the air conditioner is the BTU. Here 1 Watt is equal to 3.4121. In the example above you get 4000 x 3.4121 = 13,648 BTU.

Pros and cons of a mobile air conditioner

Cooling is nice at high temperatures. A mobile air conditioner is a popular and relatively cheap option. Especially when you do not want to install permanent air conditioning.
What are the benefits of a mobile air conditioning?
1. One of the biggest advantages of a mobile air conditioner is that it is easy to move. Do you want a cool living room first and then in your bedroom? With a mobile air conditioner with wheels you can move the air conditioner to the other room while driving.
2. No installation required. After purchasing a mobile air conditioner, you can immediately enjoy the wonderful cooling. Connect the air conditioner to power, provide an opening for the exhaust hose and you are ready!
3. In addition to a cooling function, a mobile air conditioner also has a dehumidifier and fan function. This ensures clean and safe air.
4. A mobile air conditioner has a relatively low purchase price. And you don't have to pay installation costs. This is an important reason why customers choose a mobile air conditioner.

In addition to the benefits, a mobile air conditioner also has a number of disadvantages.
1. A mobile air conditioner makes a lot of noise. Cooling the air costs a mobile air conditioner a lot of energy, which is why the device produces more noise than an air conditioner that hangs on the wall.
2. The warm air is discharged via a hose to the outside. This means that the mobile air conditioner must always be placed near a window (which must also be open).
3. A mobile air conditioner has a lower cooling capacity than an installed wall model. That is why mobile air conditioners are especially suitable for small spaces.

Pros and cons of a split air conditioner

The air conditioner that you see a lot in Curaçao is the split air conditioner. With a split air conditioner, the air conditioning system is split into an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. With the warm temperatures in Curaçao, a good air conditioner is a must-have. Do you want a fixed air conditioner on the wall? Then you choose a split air conditioner.

What are the advantages and possibilities of a split air conditioner?
1. The air conditioner makes little noise. Actually, an air conditioner always makes noise, but with a split air conditioner this is limited. The components that make the most noise are located in the outdoor unit. This means that you have little trouble indoors.
2. In addition to cooling your space, a split air conditioner also ensures the right humidity level in your space.
3. It is a powerful air conditioner that is also suitable for larger spaces.
4. Many of our air conditioners have a Sleep Mode. This allows you to automatically adjust the temperature for the most comfortable sleeping condition. And this also allows you to save energy.

In addition to the advantages, a split air conditioner also has disadvantages.
1. A split air conditioner has a more complex installation due to the coupling of the air conditioning units inside and outside.
 2. Space is also needed outside to place the outside unit. This could be considered an aesthetic disadvantage of a split air conditioner.
